We are sad to announce the death of Venise Scaife Mitchell on March 18, 2008. Mrs. Mitchell was the general music teacher at Gaskins Middle School. Her funeral was held on March 26, 2008 in Birmingham.

January, 2008

We are sad to announce the death of Brenda Banks Smith on Dec. 27, 2007. Mrs. Smith was the choral director at Jackson-Olin High School and a minister of music at her Church. Her funeral was held on January 5, 2008 in Birmingham.

Ms. K. Garrett, Music Technology and Band Teacher at Central Park Elementary School, received eight new Yamaha keyboards for the Music Technology Lab from Birmingham City Councilor M. Witherspoon.

Mrs. D. Means, Orchestra Director at Carver High School, received a new sound system for her orchestra.

Genoah Lowe, one of Ms. Garrett's 5th Grade Music Technology students at Central Park Elementary School, won first place in the state PTA Reflections Contest. His music composition was forwarded to the National PTA Reflections Contest and was one of five students to win a Merit Award. Congratulations on being a state and national winner!
